Storytelling with your photos, a different story for everyone
Today I came across a beautiful set of photographs on PhotoDonuts. You can find the article here. When looking at the photo set I instantly thought: “A picture IS worth a thousand words!”
This isn’t a normal set of photos you see every day. That made me take a closer look to every one of them. With every photo I saw a different story. I don’t know if this is done intentionality or that the photographer (Helen Warner) made exact plans to capture a story.

For me it was astonishing to see that every photo in this set instantly popped a different story to mind. Personally I would like to know the story the photo shows above. My first impression was, okay this has something to do with drowning (not necessarily in water). That is the beauty of photography. You can tell a whole story with only one picture. By getting the atmosphere right (lightning, model etcetera) you’ll be able to tell your story the way you want it!
There’s a catch however. Everyone looks at a photo (or image) differently and will think of another story. So when a hundred people view the photo you created, a hundred different stories will immerse. And that doesn’t have to be a bad thing! Just make sure the basics of the story are made clear in your photo. People will understand it and will be wanting to figure out the whole story about the set…to me that makes a photo astonishing and worth mentioning.
