How do you accomplish that? It sure took a long long time for me to find my preferred style. I still take a walk outside of my boundaries from time to time, but minimalism is the style that fits me most. Not because it’s simple to achieve, on the contrary, rather the power it has over other designs, relatively speaking.
I mean, a minimalistic designer gets the job done by adding as little as possible to his design instead of a designer who goes all out on his design. Don’t get me wrong, I like designs that go “all out”, it’s lovely to see the passion that’s added by the graphic artist. Personally I just like minimalistic designs more.
But how did I find my personal style? It’s pretty straight forward, but it took me a lot of time to just make sure it really was MY personal style. There were times I just copied from other designers and changed it to my liking, but that isn’t really the way to go on finding your style. You’ve got to begin looking at yourself…..and still watch others too.
Watch others
Watching other graphic artists is one of the best things you can do. Follow them on Twitter, Behance or any other network where you find graphic designers. Look at their work and save it into an inspirational folder or blog post like I do weekly. It doesn’t matter if it’s your style, if you like it bookmark or save it! (more…)
