Portfolio: Announcement & Invitation for a company client day

Friday, May 14th, 2010

Every year the company I work for, Quipment, organizes a customer /client day which we call Q4YOU!. On these Q4YOU!’s we give our customers a Sneak Preview of our new products and talk about recent developments in our branch. Sometimes though that day isn’t about work at all and it’s just the goal to have fun with fellow taxi entrepreneurs. Our next Q4YOU! is one of the last kind. We’re going to have a Kart Challenge that day, a 100 lap race.

For this event I had to design an announcement which customers got a week before the invitation would be sent. It had to be a reminder for clients to already keep that day in mind. Below you’ll find the announcement.

Vooraankondiging Q4YOU!

Like I said, the invitation was sent a week after the announcement was sent. This invitation has a similar design compared to the announcement.

SEO and Microsoft Silverlight

SEO for a Silverlight websiteI’m currently developing in Microsoft Expression Blend and am tasked to find out if it’s a tool to stay. In a few days I’ll post my findings on this. The program gives designers and developers the possibility to work together on the same project. At least that’s one of the uses. It uses Silverlight to compile the website / projects. It’s great to work together and create rich Internet applications, but it’s harder to create a search engine friendly website. Just like Flash, Silverlight has problems with getting found in search engines.

There are a few ways to optimize a Silverlight website for any search engine though! You’ll find a list below where these tricks are discussed. When following those tips and tricks, it’ll be possible to get your Silverlight website search engine friendly enough to get in that first page you want. It takes a bit of extra programming, but in the end you’ll have a Rich Internet application and a SEO friendly website!

Apple working on a Flash alternative

Sunday, May 9th, 2010

Apple working on a Flash alternativeFlash gets allot of attention the last few weeks, a lot of the news about it is negative. Adobe has to start countering the negativity around Flash. Today I read an article that also puts up a new barrier for Flash. The article contents were about Apple’s new Flash alternative called Gianduia.

Gianduia is a new framework to build rich web apps while using web standards and no plug-ins. Gianduia is written in Javascript and gives developers a possibility to already make applications without having to depend on plug-ins like Flash and Silverlight. So, easy for developers and easy for end users.

Test your browsers HTML 5 compatibility

Thursday, May 6th, 2010

The website html5test.com gives you the opportunity to check your browsers score. The website checks how compatible your browser is when looking at the current HTML5 specs and standards. Even though HTML5 is still in development it’s nice to know which browser handles this new HTML version best. It’s also an indication about the browser developer, if they implement new features as fast as they can, then the support should be okay when HTML5 becomes official.  You’ll then have a compatible browser immediately.

Go check out your browsers score asap at www.html5test.com.
