Improve the quality and searchability of your website with Lipperhey

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

I recently came across Lipperhey.com after a fellow student made me aware of it. I immediately created a free account and started analyzing my own website as first (dear god what a bad result) and afterwards the company websites and some hobby projects which had a significantly higher score.

What is Lipperhey? Well they are saying the following:

Lipperhey objectively analyzes and evaluates the overall quality and search-ability of websites. Recommended improvements are provided in a detailed and easy-to-implement evaluation report that is available…

Lipperhey looks at how your website is made by looking at the coding of it. It also looks how good you did your SEO on the website. In the free account there’s the possibility to check your sites again after a period of time. When using that it’ll become clear immediately if there are any improvements which happened during that period. Another option is to benchmark your website with the ones of your competitors in your Branch. You’ll see their SEO and popularity, you can even check three keywords on every website. This way it’s easy to see what your competitors are doing better then you and you can make changes and modifications.

If you want the whole shazam, then you’ll have to pay. You’ll get a full report then just like the example report available in your free account! That way it’s possible to make even more improvements to your site and get a better SEO score for example.

Portfolio: New website design finished

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

It’s been a while since I uploaded something into the portfolio section of my blog. But this week I finished a redesign of a website I already made for my aunt. She’s a stylist and needed a website to put some simple info and examples on the Internet. At first I made a simple website for her, but found some time to make some improvements. This was also a hobby project for me to try some new stuff. I’m still SEO optimizing it when I can, but the results so far are online! Take a look at www.mjsverkoopstyling.nl.

Check your backlinks for beter SEO

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

Everybody who has done a bit of SEO for his or her website knows that backlinks are important! Especially when they are relevant to you own website. But some of the backlinks you might have aren’t relevant for your website anymore and maybe you’ll want to get rid of them. You probably don’t know which backlinks you have. With a tool like Google Analytics it’s possible to find a few of them but certainly not all of them. Well, to find even more you can use a simple and easy backlink checker. There are hundreds online, but I prefer this simple one. The only thing to do is fill in your URL and press enter.

You can find the backlink checker at: http://www.iwebtool.com/backlink_checker

why don’t people search first!?

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

The last few months I keep getting confronted with lazy people and online stupidity. Especially on discussion boards it seems to be more common every day I visit one, not to mention the help forums. More and more people are finding it hard to do a decent search first. Or maybe the net is flooding with so called n00bs these days, who knows. Anyway, it seems that the same questions are getting asked repeatedly recently.

A little example. Some Gmail setting was changed as response to the recent hacks originated in some Chinese dudes. Gmail now starts in https:// mode instead of the normal http:// protocol. Google stated it could give performance problems for some people and of course it will for some of us. I mean there are still people using IE as default browser, solely through ignorance. And we all know that IE becomes slow while using https:// sometimes, that comes with the product unfortunately.

Due to these performance problems users experienced, the forum got flooded with the same questions. After four threads there was already a solution available! But people kept asking the same questions over and over, meanwhile the solutions was easy to find using a simple search option which was: Gmail is slow. And if they looked a bit further they would have seen similar topics on the first forum page! Really frustrating to see that many people just not taking any time to search or even look! I won’t say I’m a saint on the Internet, but I do read and search before I ask something. I also feel a bit stupid when I find out that the solution is there to take.

It seems to me that this sort of situation are getting more common every week. Don’t have a solution for it, even pinned topics doesn’t solve this problem. Then again, we still don’t have a solution for stupidity, guess that’s the same in this case. Ah well, maybe the future will bring us some sunshine for this, I can’t wait for that day to come.

Unfortunately, due to a laptop crash I didn’t have it anymore and could only provide him the one he allready found on sxc. Below you’ll find the end result he designed. The cd is from the band Ph you can find their myspace page here.
