WordPress and “You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page”

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

The past few months I kept getting the error, You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page, when trying to update my Word Press version automatically. I also couldn’t edit pages anymore. It took a while of searching different forums all over the web, most of the given solutions weren’t working for me at all. Today however I found time to search for another solution and I found it finally!

It seems that somehow during one of the upgrade processes the database got buggy. It stated I was logged in as an administrator but not all features were enabled though. After I Googled again I found this page. At first I didn’t think this had anything to do with my own problem. However I saw some people posting they couldn’t upgrade automatically anymore. Then I read the post of “lottasound”. He came with the following solution:

I had the same problem but solved like this.

Open your wp database in phpmyadmin.
Under wp-options find wp_user_roles. Replace with:

“Find the full code here”

worked for me :)

And yes! It worked for me to! My Word Press installation is fully functional at this time. To bad it took a while for me to find this solution. By posting it here I hope other people will find it even faster in the near future.

New Quipment.nl website launched

New Quipment website design launchedThe last few weeks I’ve been working on the new Quipment.nl website. It launched yesterday. Of course there are some minor glitches, but even the best tested websites have them. And I can tell you one thing, we tested this website a lot!

We wanted a clean and clear design. In my opinion we reached it with this website. We’ll be adding new items on a weekly bases, so people have a reason to visit the website on a more common base.  You can find the website at www.quipment.nl (dutch).

Of course any suggestions or remarks are welcome. I’m no saint, I take critisicm seriously.

How to get to a cleaner internet

Friday, September 11th, 2009

Recently I’ve been reading a lot of Internet and it’s influence on us. As you’ll all know, the Internet is dangerous for some carriers and businesses. For example, I don’t think newspapers won’t be around anymore in a few years? Why is that exactly you might think. Well it’s because news can reach more people through the Internet on a much faster rate then newspapers ever will reach. Blogs are still popping out everywhere throughout the net. Most of them don’t get updated frequently (like this one), but the bigger ones are here to stay. The old situation took way more time. An article had to be written and inspected by someone else before it got into the paper.

A downside towards this development is the fact, that a lot of articles are being published that don’t have the information you were looking for. Most articles are mainly developed around a writers opinion. This isn’t that bad of course, but recently I see a lot of people stating their opinions as a fact. Which is wrong! The Internet provides you a quick and easy way to let people know how you think. But try to consign people with your own opinion as a fact is just not needed. It’s rather frustrating if I may say so.

Wikipedia has the same problem in my opinion. People are editing and adding wikis every day, but lately I see a lot of bad facts countered even more by even worse facts. I was glad to hear that Wikipedia decided to screen the modified articles before putting them online. I don’t think the above stated was the reason for that, but it’s a nice development I must say. It seems we are grabbing back to the old situation, where an article was written by a journalist and inspected by someone else before it got published. Maybe that’s the right way to get some grip on this growing problem. It sure would clean up the Internet!

New Company website online!

Monday, July 6th, 2009

New Quipment Belgium websiteIt has been a while since my last post, but I’ve been busy with a lot of things. In September I’m going back to school again and the last two weeks I had to figure out some things regarding to it. I’m also enjoying a two week vacation right know to blow of some steam.

Man, the last two weeks have been stressful! We had a lot of important deadlines and as ever we started to late with the project. Luckily everything worked out just fine the last days before my vacation! The brochure about our new product was done on time, and the new company website went online just 4 hours before I finally shutdown my computer!

As of now I’m glad to announce that my Company entered a foreign market and is exploring new things! Exciting!
The new website is located at www.quipment.be!

No need to install a RSS viewer – Google Reader is the answer

Monday, May 25th, 2009

Google Reader is a web based RSS viewer that easily let’s you view the newly added articles of the websites you daily visit. You can add every website with a RSS feed if you like. All your feeds are visible under the “Subscriptions” tab. You can choose to see only the feeds from a particular site or view all feeds in one view. There’s also an option to star your favorite articles and easily view them through the “starred Items” option. You can share articles with your friends and share opinions or comment on each other.  If you want more stuff to read, You can browse for feeds through Reader itself.

The big advantage of Google Reader however is the fact that You can reach it from almost everywhere. The only thing you’ll need is a browser and access to the Internet.
It’s also a very fast Reader (like most Google products) and You don’t have to install any software on your computer.  Therefor this is a great alternative to a desktop based RSS viewer in my opinion.

Google Chrome – Surfing has a new name!

Friday, May 22nd, 2009

Google Chrome - Surfing has a new name! Why Google Chrome is currently one of the best, if not the best browser available? Well that’s easy! It’s fast and renders quickly. It’s also much more minimalistic in it’s appearance. In my opinion this is the future of surfing the net! Not Chrome as a browser but the approach Google used. Everything is minimalistic in it’s own way and most of the time needs no explanation to the more experienced users. Chrome is also the fastest browser out there! When clicked on it’s almost immediately there. FireFox and Internet Explorer are a few seconds slower on my laptop. Try it yourself first click Chrome and then Internet Explorer or FireFox, you’ll experience the difference in speed.

A few months ago there was a new Beta version release which made Chrome even 25 to 30% faster! Currently Google Released the beta officially! So everybody can download it by now. However, if you wish to use the new Chrome functions as one of the first you’ll need to get the beta version! You can download the beta here. Try it and get your own conclusion about it!
