RODEO – The basics for a social media strategy

Wednesday, November 9th, 2011

Creating a social media strategy is hard work. It costs a lot of time, which you DO have to invest. Investing enough time is important to create a working strategy. Don’t approach social media too hastily!

RODEO - The basics for a social media strategy

Strategies are available in many, many forms. Each company has and needs its’ own strategy. Every company is unique in it’s own way and so is the appropriate social media strategy. Every strategy should have the same basis though. Why? Because any social strategy should have these things in it. That basis is what I call RODEO.

Social SEO the future?

Wednesday, October 26th, 2011

Search engine optimization as we know it, is going to change in the next few years. Of course, the basic rules still apply and your content should still be king. But SEO is going to lean more and more towards social media in terms of attention. Especially when looking towards Google+.

Is Social SEO the future?

Why social media?

People are discussing about every thinkable thing on social media. No brand is safe and no topics are avoided. And that’s a cool thing on its own! Discussion is possible anywhere, it doesn’t matter where you are…as long you’ve a connection to the Internet.

Social media can also work pretty good for your (company’s) image. On Facebook you can be liked a lot and on Google+ you get +1’s. These likes and pluses also work well on your content. If your content is good enough and relevant enough, people will like or +1 it. And that’s word of mouth!

When you look at those chapters long enough, you’ll see it’s mainly about Twitter. Although that isn’t the only micro blogging service, it’s definitely the most known. The book also looks at other services and states that even commenting and posting on Flickr is a form of micro blogging. I disagree about that! For me micro blogging is mainly a thing that Twitter and similar services are (FriendFeed, Yammer). Posting and commenting on Flickr has more to do with photo sharing. Both of them are considered social media though, but I consider only one of them as micro blogging. (more…)

Inappropriate behavior and Social Media

Wednesday, October 12th, 2011

You’ll probably have experienced during work at Company X, inappropriate behaviour within your work environment. People shouting or scolding each other. Employees that deliberately thwart other colleagues or people consciously not executing some work. These forms of behaviour, just like the harassment of co-workers, is not done! And that should be common sense really.

Using social media by interest

Wednesday, October 5th, 2011

I’ve read an interesting article from +Robert Scoble where he talked about Facebook and Google+. He stated G+ should focus on the interest graph of social media. And I think he’s right on this one.

Like Facebook

Facebook currently uses the social graph. It focuses on the relationship you have or had in real-life and wants you to create a similar one on Facebook. And that’s okay, it seems that I personally use Facebook exactly in this way. I communicate with friends, old college mates, team mates and family. I’ve some more followers over there of course, but I basically communicate with people I know in real-life or have known. I think that’s the power of Facebook. It lets you maintain friendships!
