Saturday, April 17th, 2010

Today I got Buzzed by Had3n X who found out a neat Google Spreadsheet trick. So if you need a quick list of Super Hero’s just go to your Google Docs and get it done in less then a minute!

This is how Had3n X pointed it out.

  • Open up a new Google Spreadsheet.
  • In cell A2, type “superman”.
  • In cell A3, type “spiderman”.
  • In cell A4, type “wonder woman”.
  • Select cells A2-A4.
  • Prepare to auto fill down (I said Prepare, don’t do it yet!), by hovering the cursor at the bottom right of cell A4.
  • While holding the CTRL key, click and drag down to Cell A20. Let go and observe the magic.
  • Go to Step 6, rinse and repeat.

Gmail Adds Drag-and-Drop feature for File Attachments

Friday, April 16th, 2010

Today I found out some great news! Google added a easy to use drag-and drop feature to Gmail! Now it’s not neccessary anymore to browse towards your file. You just pick it from where it’s located and drop it into the attachment section of Gmail! Not sure where to drag it to? No problem, Gmail let’s you know it before you start questioning it. In my opinion a great feature in the GMail GUI Design.

Google ads new functionality to webmaster tools

Thursday, April 15th, 2010

Google ads new functionality to webmaster toolsGoogle ads new functionality to its webmaster tools. When looking up the most searched keywords in WMT there is a new overview available with a bit of an Analytics feel to it. It’s possible to filter between countries just like before. You can also look what your site images are doing on which keywords.

All search results are listed and now it’s possible to expand or collapse each one of them. When expanding it (by pressing the + next to it) more information becomes available. You see where you’re located in the search results and below that you’ll see a list of the pages that were found with this search assignment. Very neat isn’t it! And the best of it all, it works really fast.

Next to the list of searches by people you’ll see the number of views there were that period and the number of clicks you received! In my opinion this is a nice update of the WMT tool. Google did a good job on this one!

Improve the quality and searchability of your website with Lipperhey

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

I recently came across Lipperhey.com after a fellow student made me aware of it. I immediately created a free account and started analyzing my own website as first (dear god what a bad result) and afterwards the company websites and some hobby projects which had a significantly higher score.

What is Lipperhey? Well they are saying the following:

Lipperhey objectively analyzes and evaluates the overall quality and search-ability of websites. Recommended improvements are provided in a detailed and easy-to-implement evaluation report that is available…

Lipperhey looks at how your website is made by looking at the coding of it. It also looks how good you did your SEO on the website. In the free account there’s the possibility to check your sites again after a period of time. When using that it’ll become clear immediately if there are any improvements which happened during that period. Another option is to benchmark your website with the ones of your competitors in your Branch. You’ll see their SEO and popularity, you can even check three keywords on every website. This way it’s easy to see what your competitors are doing better then you and you can make changes and modifications.

If you want the whole shazam, then you’ll have to pay. You’ll get a full report then just like the example report available in your free account! That way it’s possible to make even more improvements to your site and get a better SEO score for example.
