I’ve read an interesting article from +Robert Scoble where he talked about Facebook and Google+. He stated G+ should focus on the interest graph of social media. And I think he’s right on this one.

Like Facebook
Facebook currently uses the social graph. It focuses on the relationship you have or had in real-life and wants you to create a similar one on Facebook. And that’s okay, it seems that I personally use Facebook exactly in this way. I communicate with friends, old college mates, team mates and family. I’ve some more followers over there of course, but I basically communicate with people I know in real-life or have known. I think that’s the power of Facebook. It lets you maintain friendships!

So you want to start implementing social media in your company? Okay that’s cool! But do you know why you want that? What’s the advantage for your company? What do you think you’ll get out of social media? It’s wise to ask yourself those questions first. When you know what you want from social media you can get a strategy together more easily.
This post won’t explain how to create that strategy for your company. That’s maybe something for a future post. It does explain what explicitly NOT to do.
Don’t just be the salesman
Just like the heading above states, don’t be a salesman. As much as you like to sell your products in large quantities, it’s not desirable to express that on social media. Remember, you’re communicating with people. Those people will treat you like any other person so it isn’t wise to flood your streams with posts like: “Now Product X is on sale, buy it now” or “Get our new product updates for only €29,-”.

Vacation season is definitely over right now. I’m already back to normal after 4 weeks. This year it was easy to go back to work after three weeks of vacation. The weather wasn’t that good and we did lots of cool stuff, almost everything we wanted. But some weeks ago volleyball training started again, which consists of two training seasons on Tuesday and Wednesday and a match on Saturday. The new course at school, where we need to advise and create a social media strategy also started a few weeks ago. All in all this means spare time is reduced to a minimum. And that’s a hard nut I needed to crack again.
So spare time is over?
Not really, volleyball is also something I like to do in my spare time. But yes, it’s pretty much over considering my activities during vacation. I’ve got lots of time to blog, work on my websites design, other designs, taking photographs and reading some books. Now that’s not so naturally any more. But I’ve managed to prioritize the things I do.
